Get a Goldfish Now

Everyone likes to own a pet. From dog lovers to cat lovers to snake lovers, there is a pet for everyone. While everyone wants to own a pet, a lot of people don’t have the time or skill to take care of them. Dogs, cats, and birds require a lot of love and attention that some people just don’t have. For people who want a pet but don’t have time, a goldfish is the perfect choice for you.

Goldfish are pretty cheap pets. They start at only a few dollars for the small common goldfish. Some of the bigger species of goldfish, like Koi, can be very expensive. However, for the common person, who is just looking to keep a fish in a small tank, you can buy these fish in any pet store. You only need to take them out in a small bag of water too which is also very convenient.

Veterinarian bills for four legged pets can often be very high. They need a lot of shots, medicines, special food, and can get sick often. Fortunately, goldfish never need to see a veterinarian so you won’t have to spend all that money on a vet. This makes these fish very economical and cheap when compared to other household pets.

Goldfish are easy to care for too. They don’t need constant care or attention like other animals. They simply need to be feed once a day the proper fish food. Every few weeks their tank should be cleaned so that bacteria does not build up from the fish’s waste. When you do this just put them in another container of luke warm tap water. Other than that, that is all the care a goldfish needs.

Goldfish are very easy to take care of and when they die, you can simply flush them down the toilet. While this may seem cruel, with other animals you have a lot more expensive funeral arrangements that need to be met. This again makes goldfish a great pet for those without a lot of time or money to take care of an animal but want the joy of being able to take care of one.

Very commonly considered an ideal pet for small children, goldfish come across as pets that are endearing and affectionate, easy to care and maintain for and a delight to watch, particularly for those who have never had the opportunity to care for a living creature before. These fish make great pets and though you can pet them or have them sleep with you, it is very peaceful to just watch them swim around.

Protect Your Pets By Using Pet Ramps

Your pet is your favorite travel companion. If you pet has trouble getting in and out of a car, then pet ramps are one of these important tools that you should not leave home without. Why? It is a great help when it comes to getting out of your SUV and down the ground (which can be quite a long way sometimes), or from the dock to the boat, or even from your tiled floor to the couch. This will be your way of keeping your pet injury free.

Pets are advised against jumping off or toward any elevated surface especially for heights that are too much for their size, built, and weight. Pets that have stout bodies and short legs are prone to spine and joint injuries when they are made to jump heights. It even becomes more dangerous to the heavy-set pets. That’s how a pet ramp becomes a required preventive tool for your pet’s protection.

The majority of the pet ramps on the market are fixed and can only be used for specific heights. When you have many places to go with your pet, it’s better if you choose the one that serves on multiple purpose that can be expanded for use in varying heights. Bear in mind that pet ramps are meant for old, arthritic, and pets with injuries.

Those pet ramps that have foam covers or cushioned covers are intended for house pets like cats. Your furry cat likes window watching or curling up in bed with you. A lightweight and portable pet ramp is just what you need which will allow you to move it from one place to another. You have to choose a pet ramp that has thick cover and cushion to avoid scratching the furniture. Pet ramps may be made from high quality plastic or aluminum and can either be folding or telescoping. Some of these pet ramps can easily be folded and kept but they can also be used as half ramps for the pool. The material these ramps are made up of can withstand a heavy weight of up to 200 lbs. Pet ramps can be life savers when they are used for pet’s access if in any case it falls off the pool.

You can choose any pet ramp you want but make sure that it is firmly attached, which makes it safe to use against slippage and movement. Sometimes you need to support it with your foot for your pet to be able to cross the ramp. Sometimes nonskid pads are to be used for slippery surfaces like tiles and vinyl.

Knowing how important is a pet ramp for your pet’s health, you should train him to learn using it at an early age.

The All-Around Gundog, German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP)

Friday 3 July 2009 @ 6:54 am
by Chuck Berry

German breeders thought of creating a much faster and much more versatile gundog and so the German Shorthaired Pointer was born. This dog was bred from the lines of the old Spanish Pointer, Hounds of St. Hubert, Foxhound, the English Pointer and some other hound breeds. As a result of this development, the GSP came out faster and excellent in hunting.

What makes the GSP an all-purpose gundog is its ability to perform not just pointing but some other hunting tasks as well. From being a pointer to being a retriever, upland bird dog and water dog, the GSP can do it all masterfully. The signs of a GSP as an outstanding hunter are intelligence, boldness, obedience and quickness and that lack of these characteristics are considered as faults.

As additional proof of the GSP’s excellence in the hunting scene, Stanley Cohen’s The Intelligence of Dog ranked the GSP as 17th on the list. The GSP has a strong sense of hunting that is why it is a must for the owner to train this dog in identifying the right prey from the small animals that should be left alone. It is not so surprising to find a GSP that is not well-trained to come home with a dead rat, bird or cat as a trophy of its personal hunting escapades.

Many hunters today still utilize the skills of the GSP because it is unarguably excellent in hunting. Hunters love it that the GSP is very dependable, hardy, full of energy and intelligent during these times. One should realize that a properly trained GSP never suggests a disposition of fear, shyness, over submissiveness, lack of docility or aggression.

The GSP may be everything you could ask for in a gundog but when it comes to being a family-oriented creature, this breed tops the list too. When not hunting, the GSP is a very loving, protective, loyal and amiable dog. It especially loves to play with children and loves to interact with humans and other canine contemporaries.

The body of the GSP is lean and streamlined and thus it is powerful and agile. Its hindquarters are utterly fitted to allow the GSP to turn around rapidly and speedily. The ears are fairly long and floppy while the muzzle is broad, long and so powerful that it can carry heavy games.

Generally, the tails of the GSPs are docked at a length that is enough for the dogs to wag and move their tails although in some countries docking is prohibited. The coat of the GSP is very short, flat and double coated. The undercoat is dense and the outer coat is stiff making the GSP water and temperature resistant.

Generally, the GSP is found in colors of dark brown, chocolate or chestnut (liver), black and white. Some dogs may come out in solid colors and some may come out with sprinkles or patches of other shades all over their bodies. This color formation of the GSP allows it to camouflage with the woods and bushes especially during winter season.
