All of us with dogs at home know just how important dog training is. It is possible to train dogs of all ages, not only puppies and it not only saves mess and destruction in your house but results in a content dog too.

My dog Ruby is a border terrier. She is now nearly two years old and we have had her since she was only 9 weeks old. As I already knew someone who owned this breed of dog it was easy for me to do some research into the temperament and amount of exercise a border terrier would need before I decided this was the correct breed for me.

Before you go ahead and by a puppy, make sure you find out as much as possible about the breed you want. puppies are very cute but can grow into large adult dogs which need lots of exercise and room to live in. You must make sure you can accommodate a large dog if that’s what you like and take it for long walks if necessary.

I was very busy with training in the first few weeks. All I did all day was chase after her to make sure she learned the basic rules she needed to know. Each time she got it right, I praised her constantly as this is very important. This rule is vital in any type of dog training exercise as it teaches the right from wrong. Lots of praise and encouragement will be appreciated enormously by your dog and she will be eager to learn more.

The same goes for reprimanding them when they do bad things. By this I mean using a stern voice which will be recognized instantly when they understand you are not happy. I never hit my dog when she gets it wrong as this is very confusing for her and can result in aggression.

If you have a dog that you find does not respond to well to walking on a lead then I would highly recommend buying a harness instead. There are many available in pet shops and once you have mastered the art of fitting and adjusting it they can be put on very quickly. My dog can be very excitable at the prospect of walkies but I have found that she responds much better when walking with a harness.

These are only a few tips on getting started with your puppy training or dog training. I would strongly recommend that you read as much as you can about training your dog, but please remember it is up to you to devote the time and patience to your pet to get any results. Always make sure training is a pleasurable experience and in a safe environment.

My dog is not perfect like a show dog, but she is now obedient and great fun to have around. I hope you have found these tips on dog training useful as a starting point. If you are interested in finding out how to train your dog, or any other dog questions, you can find everything you need in my recommended guide book.

Why You Must Know These 4 Factors First Before Feeding Your Dog

When feeding your dog, think about the following 4 factors:

- the size of your dog

- the daily activity level of your dog

- your dog’s age

- any health conditions that your dog may have

If you don’t take the above points into consideration, you are jeopardizing your dog’s health.

Most Dog Owners are not really bothered with the food they give their dogs. They purchase low-priced foods that are low in nutritional value. This situation is made worse by the fact that they sometimes feed their dogs with “people” foods, which is very bad for their health.

When your dog is fed all of these substandard foods, they are set up for all kinds of sickness. Your dog can become lethargic and lack energy. They can be listless and stop being frisky. You might think your dog is tired, so resting more when in fact your dog could be sick. It is so important that you feed your dog right if you want your dog to be healthy.

The amount of food you should give your dog is somewhat determined by his size. You should also see the feeding guidelines written on the label. Keep in mind, though, that this is just a guide and should not be followed blindly. Use your own assessment to determine what is best.

Certain breeds of dog have specific nutritional requirements that must be met in their diet for them to live an optimum lifestyle. Knowing this, dog food manufacturers have started to produce breed specific dog foods.

If you have a dog that is very dynamic and active, he needs a high energy diet. This can be achieved by feeding him calorie-rich foods.

It is very important to pick a suitable food for your dog based on his age. This is because dogs at different ages need different nutritional diets. puppies need to consume foods that are high in calorie and protein, while adult dogs need a blend of vital elements to stay healthy. Senior dogs, on the other hand, need foods that can help them reinforce their bones.

No matter what your dog’s special requirements are, there is always a dog food that fits the bill. It is your responsibility to locate it.

Some basics on Doooogs

Sunday 21 October 2007 @ 7:22 pm

There is a plethora of dog gifts available in the marketplace, with each gift type celebrating a different breed of dogs – man’s faithful companion. Breeding specialization today’s working dogs are the product of countless years of specialized breeding, which has resulted in dogs with an instinctual flair for hunting and retrieving. And westie dogs owners delight in the companionship their dogs give them during long and leisurely walks.

Today most of the working dogs are owned by individuals rather than the landowners, and that in itself causes problems for the wellbeing both physically and mentally for our working dogs during the close season. Dachshunds are ideal dogs for small children, as they are already stretched and pulled to such a length that the child cannot do much harm one way or the other. They do have special bones and treats out there that is sub post to help with the doggie breath so you can relax and just buy a treat that is not that expensive because they are all pretty much the same to our dogs.

Your dog is a social, pack animal that relies on others for individual protection, it finds safety in numbers, and will feel ostracized from the pack if not allowed to mix freely with its extended family, which includes humans and other dogs. Though cats became domestic much the same way dogs did and have also been subjected to omnivorous diets, they’ve managed to retain their original need for protein even more than dogs. After all the humor and sometimes after all the shouting, dogs are wonderful company and if our household was anything to go by, when our 14-year-old dog became ill and the awful decision was made about her future, we lost a family member on that fateful day.

To start focused attention say the dogs name and move immediately away from the dog when he moves towards and with you PRAISE and TREAT/PLAY immediately you can use a clicker for the praise or a target word, I use the word “good” in these circumstances. Dry dog food can provide a well balanced diet for adult dogs and helps with tartar control on the teeth and healthy gums. Adult dogs may not need your full attention unlike puppies need and would require lesser trips to the veterinary.

Teaching cats and dogs that don’t get along with each other to live together can be a somewhat difficult task, but it is possible. And to see them together one wonders why some cats and dogs get along and others want to destroy each other. For the first few days don’t let your dogs and cats near each other. Of course genetics and instinct alone isn’t the only reason why dogs and cats sometimes don’t get along.

Essential Fatty Acids supplement for dogs and cats replenishes the essential fatty acids that are easily destroyed by normal processing of commercial pet food. Give your pet, the glossy coat that it deserves and you only dreamt of by supplementing its diet with Essential Fatty Acids.

You are the best person in the world to train your dog. Most dogs are housebroken already so they would cause lesser damage to your belongings and don’t wake up at night like most puppies do. And for those of you that live in warmer areas the boxer dog is great with its short, shiny and smooth coat.
