It is claimed by many nutritionists that Sushi is one of the main reasons why Japanese people have the lowest incidence of obesity and heart disease. Now finally more and more are taking up Sushi as an alternative to junk foods.
Sushi, that sumptuous combination of rice and raw fish, wrapped in fish skin is quickly approaching fast food status overseas, far, far away from the country that invented it. It’s sparing partner, the wasabe, the green stuff that is atrocious to the nose is a delicacy that non-Japanese people are still getting used to-but it’s only a matter of time.
Wasabe or Wasabi paste as many know it has more than just taste to offer the dinner. It might suprise you to learn that this hot and firery paste has almost magical powers with the ability to kill bacteria in fish … even if the fish may not be as fresh as it might be.
Eating sushi can be quite expensive, owing to the fact that it is labor intensive to make. The first big challenge is getting really fresh fish, definitely not just the ones that sell in the typical wet market. You have to find the fish market that sells sushi-grade fish. In some cases, they will help do the deboning for you, but for a fee, of course.
You could of course prepare your own sushi … You’ll need a good amount of time as the process cannnot be rushed and a high level of confidence with sharp knives. Maybe it is this combination of labor and skill that means most dinners either choose to buy ready prepared sushi or dine out at one of the number of eating places serving such food.
Get this, the trick is not in the fish, it’s in the art of cutting it. Although fresh fish is absolutely required to start with, there is only way to do it the sushi way. Experiment with doing it your way and see what happens to the fish. The fish slices will look soggy and grainy–it seems the fish has been abused.
You can’t cheat with the rice, too. It’s got to be authentic Japanese rice, preferably cooked rice-cooker-style. As a final word, never confuse sushi with its “cousin,” the sashimi. The basic difference is the rice! Sashimi doesn’t come with rice, you have to order it separately, unless you intend to it as it is (with wasabe, of course).
There are dozens of types of sushi all served with rice. The hand made sushi or nigiri are typically ordered in pairs. Another popular type of sushi are sushi rolls or maki, these are made of sheets of seaweed (nori) and served as six slices. There are many variations of these. In addition you’ll find pressed sushi or oshi (small squares) and bean curd rolls or inarizushi.
Here are many more sushi styles. Saikuzushi, or festival sushi is an art form. Rice is tinted different colors, sectioned off and rolled. When it is sliced, complex images are created. Chirashizushi, or scattered sushi, is rice spread in a box or bowl with nine kinds of fish and vegetables scattered on top or mixed in with the rice. Chakinzushi is sushi rice in a thin omelet wrapper shaped and tied like a lady’s drawstring purse. Sometimes a single pea or small shrimp decorates the ruffled part of the wrapper.
Makezushi consist of sushi rice combined with vegetables, and seafood that has been molded into special bowls of square tins and covered with pieces of sliced omelet, shrimp and vegetables. Another variation on this theme is Fukusazushi where where the molded rice is wrapped in a sheet of omelet and then turned over to hide the joins and garnished with a ribbon of seaweed (nori) and ginger.
Temarizushi are rice balls tightly wrapped in thinnly-sliced marinated fish. Itadakimasu! (Bon Appetite!)

When I first started my cartoons, I was thinking of dogs. It was going to be a totally dog cartoon (that is, Londons Times Cartoons). But the more dog cartoons I created, the more I wanted to do cats, and relationships, and people, and science, ad nauseum. Oddly enough, after I opened my RickLondonCollection.com store, I started getting more and more emails from poodle owners and lovers wanting to know if I could kindly put up more poodle-oriented merchandise I finally did, but first, I felt compelled to learn the history of the poodle. Though I’d owned dogs all my life, and my first cousin owns and loves her standard poodle, I knew very little about the breed. I was surprised at what I learned.
Though the origins of poodle history are enmeshed in mystery, people started noticing canines that actually resembled the poodle as we see it today. It was, most likely the original water spaniel, known for its hunting skills, particularly bird hunting and retrieving. Oddly enough, it technically should be known as the German Poodle, as that is where it truly originated. With Russian influence it became standardized as a unique breed in France, first, and known as the French Poodle. In Germany it was still known as the pudel; pudel means to “splash in the water”. The European breed has a corded coat, rarely seen in the U.S. The standard poodle came first, then the poodle (the most common), and finally the miniature and toy breeds. All have a long and rich history. Though it is not known exactly when the poodle entered the U.S., AKC began registering them in 1886. Only the miniature poodle is in the non-sporting group of this breed. Though many Americans don’t use them for hunting, they remain prolific at hunting, with birds being their forte’.
In France, Poodles have been used for a variety of purposes and still are. The Caniche for duck hunting, the Petti Barbet (a toy size) to entertain royalty, and the Truffle dog to search for that flavorful food (pigs, for the most part have taken their place in search of truffles).
The UK received the poodle in 1874. For 36 years they were all shown together and in 1910, changes were made to the way they were shown; put in different classes according to size and appearance.
The foundations that were developed in England became the cornerstones of the breed in the United States. Precisely when the Poodle was imported to the United States is not known. The American Kennel Club registered its first Poodle in 1886. The Poodle Club of America was originally founded in 1896. Shortly after its establishment it was disbanded, and then reorganized in 1931. The P.C.A. used the Standard and Rules of the Curly Poodle Club of England as its base for establishing the Standard in the U.S. The same Standard now applies to all three sizes of Poodle, the only difference is in the height measurements for each size. The Standard and Miniature Poodle are shown in the Non Sporting Group of the A.K.C., and the Toy Poodle is shown in the Toy Group. The F.C.I. (Federation Cynologique Internationale) recognizes four sizes: the Standard, Miniature, Dwarf and Toy.

There is absolutely nothing more adorable than a new puppy, with its dancing eyes, little wagging tail and milky breath. You can’t help but fall in love with the little wriggling fur ball as it nuzzles your neck and slurps your face with its little wet tongue, lavishing you with unconditional love. The thought that you should start learning about training for aggressive dogs never crosses your mind, because you can’t imagine that this little four-legged angel could ever be anything other than sweet and gentle.
Most people are under the mistaken impression that only dogs who are abused and neglected become aggressive. Unfortunately, this is not true. While abuse and neglect are generally responsible for cases of severe aggression, there are many dogs raised in loving environments that grow up to be aggressive. So why is it that some puppies grow up to be aggressive even though they are raised with love and kindness?
The reason is so simple and obvious that is often overlooked. Dogs have been domesticated for so long that we tend to forget that they are animals with natural instincts that are very strong. These instincts are perfectly natural, and many of them, like their sense of loyalty to their owners, are part of what makes them so desirable as pets. In some dogs, however, certain instincts are heightened, and when left unchecked can develop into aggression. Owners often fail to realize this, and dismiss early warning signs of aggression as nothing more than typical dog behavior.
It is crucial that owners are aware of and able to identify early warning signs of aggression so that they will be able to better understand how to treat aggressive dog behavior. Training for aggressive dogs can only succeed when owners understand and address the underlying causes of aggression.
Excessive displays of dominance, fear and territorialism are all warning signs of aggression. As an owner, your first step in learning how to help an aggressive dog is to recognize these excessive displays for what they are and work with your dog to help them understand that their aggressive reactions are not acceptable behavior.
Fear is probably the easiest of these instincts to recognize and understand, because it is also a very strong human instinct. Like humans, fear often produces a “fight or flight” feeling in dogs, and neither action is appropriate when the fear they are feeling is a reaction to the mailman. When dealing with this instinct, the key to training for aggressive dogs is to help them overcome their fear. If your dog snarls, bares its fangs, or attacks when afraid, then you need to help your dog learn how to cope with their fear.
One possible cause for aggression in dogs is their natural instinct for dominance. Dogs are by nature pack animals, and they have a keen instinct to establish hierarchy in their pack. They do this by battling each other for dominance to gain leadership and territory. This instinct does not go away when they are living with humans. So if you as do not establish yourself as the “alpha dog”, your dog will take it upon himself to try to secure the position for himself via domination. This can cause serious problems, and training for aggressive dogs can assist in you with helping your dog understand his proper position in your family.
While it can sometimes be annoying to have your dog bark at every living creature that comes within 10 feet of your door, it is perfectly normal dog behavior. It is a simple fact that dogs are territorial and feel instinctively bound to protect their homes and their families. But if your dog’s “protectiveness” is scaring your guests and neighbors, then you need to deal with it as soon as possible by learning how to treat aggressive dog behavior.
If you want your puppy to grow up to become a happy, well-adjusted dog, then you need to take the time to educate yourself and learn how to help an aggressive dog as soon as possible. Training for aggressive dogs requires a lot of patience and the earlier the training begins, the better for everyone.

Dalmatians have a quite distinct look and are great for the home. Previous breeders have come up with various characteristics for the Dalmatian, including speed, strength and health. When searching for top Dalmatian breeders, there are some things you need to think about first.
Where To Start Looking
The steps are simple in finding a dog breeder in general. Ask for referrals from a veterinarian, local breed club, dog show coordinator, or friend. Your first thought may be to stop by a pet store. However, good dog breeders often do not sell their dogs through a pet store. The best way to find good Dalmatian breeders is to visit the place where Dalmatians are born and raised. Of course, you may start searching online and then visit your preferred breeder in person.
How To Analyze Dalmatian Breeders
If you’ve already listed down the best Dalmatian breeders, visit them one by one and do lots of observation. Will your potential Dalmatian be healthy and will you be happy with it for many years to come? And most importantly, make sure the breeder will be a sincere one. Dalmatian breeders should be more caring for their dogs and not sell them purely for money.
If Dalmatian breeders care they are supposed to ask you many questions. If you’re wondering why, it’s because they want the best for their dogs. Be prepared to talk about your work hours, how many people live with you, who your guests are, the spaciousness of your backyard, and your ability to spend for dog necessities. That may not sound comfortable to do, however, good Dalmatian breeders will want to know about these things.
Relay Your Concerns
Now that you’ve decided on the top breeder around, ask questions yourself. Think about guarantees, certain considerations, and if the breeder joins other organizations. Top Dalmatian breeders usually offer lifetime guarantees for your new dog. Furthermore, they also are able to care for your dog in any situation that you are no longer able to. And if he or she joins some organization like animal shelters, that is a plus.
Analyze Your Own Capabilities
You would certainly need to think about how you’re going to provide for your new Dalmatian, too. Familiarize yourself with the breed’s original purpose. Dalmatians were mainly bred for stamina, so they tend to be energetic, playful and friendly dogs.
Due to the Dalmatian’s characteristics, they need a good amount of exercise in a larger space and are great with kids. They can be somewhat stubborn though, so you’d need to give it lots of training. Other matters to think about are allergies because Dalmatians shed a lot. Dalmatian breeders can give you the healthiest Dalmatian, although the breed itself has a common genetic predisposition to deafness and kidney and bladder stones.
Whether you’re planning on joining dog shows or just want the healthiest Dalmatian, good Dalmatian breeders will gladly inform you the general show characteristics of Dalmatians. You can do your own research online by keying in Dalmatian show characteristics. Remember, Dalmatian breeders should be as enthusiastic as you are in raising a healthy, happy Dalmatian.
