Doesn’t Your Dog Deserve The Best Dog Food?

by Jolie Mitchel

If you are willing to spend the extra money, high quality dog food has many benefits for the health and well being of your furry friend. Including the way they look and feel. You will notice these benefits almost immediately.

Don’t you think your dog deserves to be treated as well as you treat yourself? Some of us feel they should be treated better. The cheaper the food is, the worse it is for them to eat on a daily basis. Many veterinarians have compared most of these commercially advertised dog foods to serving family and friends chopped up boxes with brown gravy. Sure their appetite will be filled, but the vitamins and minerals they need will just not be there. Be assured that once your dog becomes adjusted to the lower calories, and basic nutritional needs, he/she will most likely eat a lot less of the \”good stuff\”, instead of gobbling up mass quantities of the other brands, (as most dogs tend to do).

You cannot even begin to count all the long as well as short term benefits when you decide to upgrade. The best quality foods and that is including the much abundant and easy to find if you search \”home made dog food\” recipes, these will provide your animal with a healthier and happier disposition in life.

Be aware that some dogs are highly allergic to some of the ingredients that are found in some of these low quality dog foods. With the better quality dog food, you may find that your dog doesn’t \”itch\” as much, and you will find a lot less hair all over your house. Also, if your dog has \”ear problems\” (such as yeast build up), as many dogs tend to have, you will notice this problem improve immensely. Once they start ingesting all of the nutrients they need to improve their life, their bodies will heal a lot quicker after any accidents, or surgical procedures.

Animals learn best when their needs are met. So if you’ve been relying on low quality food and haven’t had much luck with training, changing to a higher quality might be part of the answer. No one feels like producing good work when they’re hungry or living on a diet of garbage. Same holds true with our furry friends.

I adopted our dog after he was hit by a huge truck. Luckily he wasn’t hurt too terribly. He was dropped off at a nearby shelter by his owner, who discarded him because \”he will never be the same\”. After we had taken him home, we decided to keep feeding him the food that the shelter recommended. After all, he seemed to like it well enough. He kept itching and scratching at some raw patches on his leg, and we just assumed he must have \”gotten something\” at the kennel. I brought him back to the shelter to show them and to ask what could be done. They gave me a topical ointment, and said \”this should clear it right up\”. After a few weeks of applying the medication, the raw spots were still there, and the poor thing kept on itching and scratching. He was also having many watery bowel movements, and I was worried. I finally took him to the Vet, and she said \”he isn’t getting enough protein in his diet\”. She then recommended a bit of a higher quality dog food, (one of the expensive ones). I was prepared to go broke, oh yes, did I mention my dog is an 180 pound Saint Bernard? To my astonishment, his rashes got better almost immediately, some were almost gone!

But I did not see the best results until I decided to buy him the highest quality food that his demeanor became calmer his itchy ear became under control and his bare spots became fully healed. Now he has a full shiny and healthy coat and has even gained 50 lbs.

I have always believed in that you reap what you sew. Pets need to be on a diet that is even better than ours. Always keep in mind that you buy your pet cheap food you are not only being neglectful but uncaring as well.
