Facts About Shar Pei Breeding

by Melissa Coleman

The more you know about Shar Pei breeding the better prepared you can be to deal with issues and problems if they ever come up. The more you know about your Shar Pei the better equipped you will be as an owner to deal with the problems that come from owning the Shar Pei. Being familiar with some of the breeding tips that breeders know can also help you stay up on what you need to know as a responsible owner. Education is one of the greatest tools an owner can have.

The Shar Pei is extremely intelligent and when they are young they are very curious. They will wander around taking in their surroundings and interact with things in ways that can have some pretty humorous results. They are also very aggressive and when they are pups this is cute but it can get out of hand if that aggressive behavior is allowed to follow them into adulthood.

Everyone loves the deep wrinkles on the Shar Pei and it looks like the cute little dog will never fit right into its own skin. But Shar Pei breeding will tell you that they grow into that wrinkled skin into a strong and fairly good-sized dog that was originally bred for fighting and guarding people.

A study of Shar Pei breeding will tell you that the little puppy will grow into a very strong and good-sized dog that has a very majestic and powerful look to it. Luckily it retains that face that you remembered and the face comes complete with the wrinkles that everyone knows, but when your Shar Pei is done growing it turns into an impressive dog.

The Shar Pei’s fur is very short and can seem very soft but when you take a piece of fur by itself you notice a stiffness to it. They can get everywhere and the Shar Pei has a tendency to shed a great deal so if you have no desire to be cleaning up thick little dog hairs then the Shar Pei may not be for you.

In Shar Pei breeding there is also a concern for many health issues. The Shar Pei can develop bone ailments called hip and elbow dysplasia and these can be quite painful for the dog as well as frustrating for the owner. Your Shar Pei is also known to develop digestive problems as well that can dictate what type of diet you can feed it or if it will need medical attention its whole life.

A good breeder will either have these issues taken care of or find a home for dogs with ailments with experienced owners who know how to care for them. Just another in the long line of services a breeder can offer.

A Shar Pei breeder is a very intelligent person who only wants the best for you and your dog. Before you even take your dog home the breeder has spent time getting the pup used to the sounds and commotion of life in a house so you get a dog that is used to it. This is just one more reason to trust your new Shar Pei puppy purchase to a qualified breeder.
