If you are considering the addition of a pet to your family how about choosing a Havanese mix? The Havanese breed has been crossed with numerous other breeds for the purpose of producing dogs that are less expensive than a purebred and incorporate the positive characteristics of two different breeds. If bred properly, Havanese mix breeds may also be healthier than the purebred Havanese, since inherited health issues may be successfully bred out through the cross breeding process.
One of the popular hybrids today is a Havanese mix. Havanese mixes can be crossed with a number of different breeds, many of which are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club. When cross-breeding is done correctly, the result can be a dog that is less prone to genetic defects and illnesses, and combines the best characteristics from two different breeds to give you the best family pet possible.
When you begin researching the Havanese mixes that are available through breeders, you may be surprised to find the number of crossbreeds that are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club. Registration through this organization will give Dog Owners peace of mind in knowing where their dog came from in terms of the lineages of both parents. Without that knowledge, your “designer dog” becomes a plain old mutt that can be a mix of many different breeds.
Some of the more popular Havanese mixes that are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club include the Havanese and Lhasa Apso mix (Hava-Apso), the Havanese and Shih Tzu mix (Havashu) and the Havanese and Yorkshire Terrier combination (Havashire).
When you shop for a breeder of your Havanese mix breed, it is just as important to find a reputable breeder for your mix as it is to find one for a purebred. This will ensure that the lineage of your dog is one that is not tangled with many health or temperament issues. It will also give you the assurance that you dog truly is a mix between two purebreds.
A Havanese mix breed can bring years of enjoyment and companionship to everyone in your family. There are many advantages to these designer dogs today, including the lower risk of genetic problems that will typically follow a line of purebred dogs. However, there are factors to watch out for with your Havanese mix as well.
If you are considering a Havanese mix breed, it is important that you search out your breeder very carefully. This will ensure that you end up with a dog that is indeed the designer dog that you were hoping for with the lineage that you are paying for. There are plenty of reputable breeders available, and you can find them through the Internet or talking to your veterinarian.
It is also important to exercise caution when you are searching for a breeder of your Havanese mix, to ensure that you will be able to accurately trace the lineage of your dog. This way, you will know for sure that your pet is the combination of two distinct and pure breeds.

Beagles are a popular breed of dog and beagles are just like any other dog in that they are prone to disease and injury. However there are some ailments that are exclusive to beagles and that can cause problems down the road for your beagle if you don’t watch for the warning signs. A beagle will get cuts and scratches when it is running around like any other dog but there are warning signs you should be looking for when in comes to beagle health problems.
Beagles will eat until they get sick and then they will just keep eating. Beagles are known for eating everything in front of them and this leads to the common problem of obesity. Any dog breed can experience obesity but a beagle is very susceptible to it because they will gladly trade exercise for food and that isn’t healthy. Be diligent about your beagle’s diet and make sure they get a lot of exercise.
Beagle health problems affect many parts of the beagle’s body and one part that can be affected is the eye. Beagle’s are prone to getting a condition called distichiasis which is a condition caused by over growth of the eyelashes to the point where they get into the beagle’s eyes and cause problems.
This condition is treatable with surgery but you need to get your beagle to the vet right away if you notice this problem developing.
Beagles love to eat and beagles hate to exercise. The beagle will run around a little here and there but the beagle is not a dog breed that will run for hours. Beagles are also famous for their desire to eat anything within their reach. This leads to one of the primary beagle health problems and that is obesity. You need to keep a close eye on your beagle’s diet or things can get out of control rather quickly.
Beagles are also victims to their own breeding as well as anything in the environment around them. The floppy ears on a beagle can cause beagle health problems as they do not allow the proper air flow to the ears causing build up. Moisture is also not allowed to escape and this can cause infection after a while. So keep an eye on your beagle’s ears and take a look under them once in a while.
Some of the things that sound awful with a beagle are completely harmless. For some reason beagles occasionally experience what is known as reverse sneezing. It sounds like they are trying desperately to catch their breath but they are just fine and it is harmless.
It can be what is called reverse sneezing, which is a beagle thing and no one knows what causes it or why. But if you suspect any problems with your beagle do not hesitate to get to the vet as soon as possible.

We as humans have a unique bond with our dogs and it’s our duty to make sure we keep them as safe as possible. In order to accomplish this, we need to train the dog properly and teaching a dog to stay is a critical part of this training as it could keep your dog from running headlong into a dangerous situation.
If your dog is misbehaving, the best solution is to assert your alpha status. There are several methods to do this, but one of the most common is frequently telling your dog to “stay.” When you give your dog the command to “stay,” they should not move even when you do. Unfortunately, this is the opposite of what usually happens when this command is said.
A good first move is to train the dog to “sit” when told to do so. This is a key part of training and should be the basic command that any dog knows before you try to teach him anything else.
Then with the pup, teen, or adult dog in the sit, I thrust a hand in the dog’s direction, palm first, fingers raised, giving the voice command to ’stay!’ Not shouting, just distinct and audible over other noises. Hand motions should be exact and unique to a certain command/behavior. Take a step back.
Chances are that the dog will try to follow you, so do the hand gesture for sit and stay again. If the dog still doesn’t obey, move an attractive treat or toy over the dog’s head. It should be visible by the dog but only if his chin is facing upward. The dog may even turn around. Keep doing this until your dog obeys, and then let him know with warm praise. Repeat the process.
Eventually your dog will “get it” and will stay, unfortunately your work is not done at this point. The next step in teaching a dog to stay is to get him to stay as you move further and further away. So, repeat the stay command and take a few steps away from him. Most of the time, the farther away you get the less obedient they will be. Remember, you are their master and they want to follow you.
One technique for getting past this is to strap the dog to a collar and long leash or rope. Wrap the leash around a tree or post several feet behind the dog and hold it as you face him or her. As the dog stands and steps forward, pull the rope and use the voice command and hand gesture. Don’t tug so hard that you throw the dog out of balance. Your purpose is to restrain, not punish the dog. A partner can be used instead of a tree, but only as a secondary choice because dogs might get confused about which person to obey.
Some dogs will lie down during the exercise, more so as you back away a few feet. You might have to train an ‘up’-’sit’ combo before mastering ’stay’. Breeds and individual dogs may vary in how long - how many repeats over how many days - it takes to consistently obey, but nearly all pick it up eventually.
Have your dog stay for several seconds. Once this has been completed, tell your dog to “come” using a different tone and a unique hand gesture. Make sure that the gesture for “come” is something that you will be able to do without difficulty but that you will never accidentally do during everyday activities. Any gestures that you use for commands should be unique for each type of behavior you are looking for and should just be used when seeking these behaviors from your dog.
One thing you need to do when teaching a dog to stay his to remember to praise him generously when he exhibit’s the desired behavior. Repeat the exercise making the dog stay longer as he learns. If the dog stays when you go back into the house, that means you have succeeded completely. Remember to release him after a minute.

If you are willing to spend the extra money, high quality dog food has many benefits for the health and well being of your furry friend. Including the way they look and feel. You will notice these benefits almost immediately.
Don’t you think your dog deserves to be treated as well as you treat yourself? Some of us feel they should be treated better. The cheaper the food is, the worse it is for them to eat on a daily basis. Many veterinarians have compared most of these commercially advertised dog foods to serving family and friends chopped up boxes with brown gravy. Sure their appetite will be filled, but the vitamins and minerals they need will just not be there. Be assured that once your dog becomes adjusted to the lower calories, and basic nutritional needs, he/she will most likely eat a lot less of the \”good stuff\”, instead of gobbling up mass quantities of the other brands, (as most dogs tend to do).
You cannot even begin to count all the long as well as short term benefits when you decide to upgrade. The best quality foods and that is including the much abundant and easy to find if you search \”home made dog food\” recipes, these will provide your animal with a healthier and happier disposition in life.
Be aware that some dogs are highly allergic to some of the ingredients that are found in some of these low quality dog foods. With the better quality dog food, you may find that your dog doesn’t \”itch\” as much, and you will find a lot less hair all over your house. Also, if your dog has \”ear problems\” (such as yeast build up), as many dogs tend to have, you will notice this problem improve immensely. Once they start ingesting all of the nutrients they need to improve their life, their bodies will heal a lot quicker after any accidents, or surgical procedures.
Animals learn best when their needs are met. So if you’ve been relying on low quality food and haven’t had much luck with training, changing to a higher quality might be part of the answer. No one feels like producing good work when they’re hungry or living on a diet of garbage. Same holds true with our furry friends.
I adopted our dog after he was hit by a huge truck. Luckily he wasn’t hurt too terribly. He was dropped off at a nearby shelter by his owner, who discarded him because \”he will never be the same\”. After we had taken him home, we decided to keep feeding him the food that the shelter recommended. After all, he seemed to like it well enough. He kept itching and scratching at some raw patches on his leg, and we just assumed he must have \”gotten something\” at the kennel. I brought him back to the shelter to show them and to ask what could be done. They gave me a topical ointment, and said \”this should clear it right up\”. After a few weeks of applying the medication, the raw spots were still there, and the poor thing kept on itching and scratching. He was also having many watery bowel movements, and I was worried. I finally took him to the Vet, and she said \”he isn’t getting enough protein in his diet\”. She then recommended a bit of a higher quality dog food, (one of the expensive ones). I was prepared to go broke, oh yes, did I mention my dog is an 180 pound Saint Bernard? To my astonishment, his rashes got better almost immediately, some were almost gone!
But I did not see the best results until I decided to buy him the highest quality food that his demeanor became calmer his itchy ear became under control and his bare spots became fully healed. Now he has a full shiny and healthy coat and has even gained 50 lbs.
I have always believed in that you reap what you sew. Pets need to be on a diet that is even better than ours. Always keep in mind that you buy your pet cheap food you are not only being neglectful but uncaring as well.
